LaRue Tactical PredatOBR 7.62

View Individual State Variances

The PredatOBR 7.62 was designed for those who are searching for a hybrid cross between the standard OBR and PredatAR 7.62x51 Rifles. The most remarkable feature of the PredatOBR is its ability to be completely “broken down” and stored into the optional Rollup Bag and Toolbox. The PredatOBR handguard has a locking stainless steel QD Lever system on each side. Once the levers are released, the handguard slides off of the upper assembly in seconds. The PredatOBR's barrel can easily be removed with the supplied PredatOBR Barrel Wrench, unscrew the Barrel Nut from Receiver and pull the Barrel Assembly free from Receiver. No need to remove the gas tube, gas block or muzzle device. Reverse the process to reinstall. Hand-tighten Barrel Nut and torque approximately 1/8-turn past hand-tight (Approximately 40-50 foot pounds). Once reassembled correctly, the point of impact (POI) shift will be 0.0 to 0.5 MOA of the original.

PredatOBR barrels are chambered in 7.62x51mm, and feature rifling in a 1/10 twist rate. All barrels are threaded in 5/8 x 24. Like the OBR and PredatAR riles, LaRue has eliminated the conventional AR barrel nut and bolt the handguard directly to the proprietary upper receiver, creating a true “free-float” barrel. The handguard does not touch the barrel or barrel nut at any place. The zero-MOA upper rail provides plenty of room for weapon-mounted night-vision day/night combinations. Both the upper and lower are CNC-machined from billet aluminum for the optimum fit and consistency. Even though it has been lightened certain features, there is still additional material in strategic areas to achieve maximum accuracy.

The PredatOBR has threaded stainless-steel hard-points over the entire length of the handguard at the 3, 6, and 9 o’clock positions. These hard-points have an integral spine built-in for structural support. Provided with the system are three 3-inch MIL-STD-1913 rail sections that can be positioned anywhere along the handguard, per operator preference. These rail sections are attachable/detachable using a supplied tool (Torx® T-15 wrench). The rail sections are CNC-machined from billet aluminum. This robust solution provides a perfect precision mounting space for aiming lasers, illumination and bipods.

The PredatOBR's Port Selector Technology™ (PST) gas block is adjustable, to aid in the optimum function when using a sound suppressor. This special gas block contains a dual port mechanism that is operated by rotating a lever from one side to another. When the lever is rotated to the right-side of the rifle, the gasses are reduced, to compensate for the extra blowback created by the suppressor. When rotated to the left side, the gasses are increased for use without a suppressor.

The LaRue Tactical 6-position Retract Action Trigger (R.A.T.) Stock comes standard with every PredatOBR. It is ergonomic, has protected control surfaces and contains a set of cleaning rods in an internal compartment. Since the height of the 12 o’clock rail is at the optimum position, there is no need for a cheek riser as part of this system.

About LaRue Firearm Accuracy:
LaRue accuracy is known world-wide. The accuracy of each LaRue Rifle is proven at our 100-yard tunnel using match-grade ammunition. No LaRue firearm can leave the facility unless it obtains accuracy of less-than 1 MOA (1.047”) at 100 Yards. Each firearm ships with a copy of a 3-round group obtained from that actual firearm. While we guarantee the rifle is capable of sub-MOA accuracy, we can not guarantee the end-user will be able to shoot sub-MOA…since we have no control over shooting proficiency, familiarity with the system, ammunition choice, environmental factors, etc. LaRue firearms are precision instruments that require discipline, training, proper ammunition and maintenance to yield the best results.

Suppressor Compatibility:
LaRue 7.62 rifles with Port Selector Technology (PST) have been optimized for best-performance with SureFire suppressors. We understand that there are dozens of 7.62 suppressors to choose from on the market at this time. We feel that SureFire suppressors fall somewhere in the middle-range in regards to effect of performance with gas-operated rifles. Many users have met with success operating different models of their choice. Combined with variables in ammunition, 7.62 suppressor owners have experienced a large spectrum of conditions (much greater than seen with 5.56 suppressors). This range of variables is easy to manage with a bolt-action 7.62, but with a gas-operated system it is not. While we made a concerted effort to design a gas system that will work with a wide range of suppressors, we can not guarantee proper-function with suppressor hardware other than SureFire.

I received my PredatOBR 18" after a little over a year wait. I purchased a JP LRP07-H during the wait and was very happy with it. After receiving the PredatOBR I was thrilled. I slapped on a Vortex 3X Spitfire on it and went to the range. I didn't bore site it and was shocked with it being not only on paper but within 2" of the point of aim. A couple of clicks and it was making one big hole. The trigger is awesome as well as the fit and finish. The balance of this rifle is perfect. Its not that other rifles aren't good to great but this one is heads above the rest in my opinion. As I stated earlier, I purchased the JP while waiting. I actually have two JP LRP07's in 308 and 6.5 Creedmore. They are great rifles but DO NOT compare to my PredatOBR. Thanks Mark and Company for such good products and fabulous support. The LaRue PredatOBR 18 has what i like to call a command presents. This thing demands respect when its at the range, and it earns it by its performance on target. The quality of the rifle is seriously unmatched. I have Knight's, Noveske's, LWRC's and at one point had a Warsplat or whatever that new company is called. No body beats LaRue's fit and finish and when it comes to accuracy the PredatOBR 18 cant be beat. The PredatOBR is surpisingly lighter than you would expect, but when you break this thing down its built like a tank. Nothing on this gun is cheap or flimsy. When you get behind this thing you just feel more confident. The PredatOBR 18 7.62 makes shooting tight groups seem easy. I mounted a Vortex 5-20 and I am very pleased with the setup. I could not have been happier with my purchase. My only bone to pick with LaRue is they dont make a PredatOBR owners shirt. hint hint LaRue!! Thanks LaRue for a great rifle.

Its a great gun! The Navy Seal that put me on to Larue was on target. I was some what over taken by the tool box but when you get down to the rifle, wow! I had three offers for the gun before I got it out of the gun shop that handled the shipment. Putting it together tells a lot about the maker. Its very tight and well made. It shoots great with my reloads or store ammo. I don't have the final Larue barrel but when it does come I'm sure it will be even better. Can't wait to get out there and shoot again at the range. I'm getting ready for some hog hunting and my Larue will be a big help. Bob, Lt Col USAF Ret.

I've had my Larue for about two months. Although I was some what taken by the tool box case, it was love at first sight when we got the gun together. I had three offers for the gun before I left the gun shop that handled the shipment. You can tell that its a well made gun by how tight it fits together. Although I don't have my final barrel, it shoots great. With match grade ammo I have no problems getting sub MOA groups at 100 yards. The wait was well worth it. RamBob, USAF Ret.

By far the best built rifle I have ever owned. Popped the two pins out of the lower and couldn't get the rifle apart. Used to cheaper AR's falling apart. Not the case with how tightly made this gun is. Haven't had the chance to make up hand loads but it shot under 1/2" with 175 Gr Federal match ammo. Will definitely not be my last Larue purchase after seeing first hand the product they produce. And it only took about three weeks to get to my FFL. All around great product.

Incredible machining and workmanship, added sure fire brake, LT 158 and night force 2.5-10x42 With this combo riser stock is not needed. Smooth, Accurate and totally reliable with any ammo tried to date. Limiting factor is the guy/girl behind the gun shoots every bit as well as GAP 10 plus it all made in house. Huge plus in my opinion. I seriously doubt I will ever see a problem, but nice to know where the buck stops, and that Larue stands behind their work. Easy to do when you turn out this quality Long lead times must be a thing on the past as I have purchased 2 rifles in as many months and happy to report in both cases both were built and shipped within 2 weeks of order. Once you experience Larue Quality nothing else will compare. Thank you

I decided to purchase this rifle after a friend of mine purchased a 16" PredatOBR. It looked so well machined and designed, and shot so well that I wanted to get one to fill the gap in my collection where there should be a .308 gas gun. It's a very impressive gun and it is a pleasure to shoot. Mine is outfitted with a JP silent recoil system, a PRS stock and a Surefire Brake and it is incredibly smooth shooting. Much softer recoil than my friends 16" gun. I've been able to get 5/8" to 3/4" groups with 175 FGMM when I do my part but it really came together the first time I stretched it out. On my first outing to gather data with the gun I had no problem hitting 1-2 MOA targets all the way out to 1100 yards and even shot a squirrel at 800 yards when one was unlucky enough to wander onto the range when I was getting ready to shoot the 800 yard plate. My last shot of the day was a 24" plate at 1200 yards. Overall I'm very happy with the gun.

I've spent a lot of time reading reviews and opinions on forums about this rifle. Good reviews are met with negative comments such as your a fan boy of larue and the product is just blown out of proportion. I can say they have never held or fired a larue rifle. I thought all my rifles were top shelf until this one, the quality, precision and attention to detail are worth any amount of time waiting and price. It stacks groups and operates flawlessly, absolutely the best. If you are reading this and are on the fence about buying one, don't hesitate, go for it!! You won't be disappointed.

The 18" PredatOBR has greatly exceeded all my expectations. Today at the range, shooting Federal Gold Medal Match in 168gr and 175gr, all my 5 shot groups were under .8 inches, with 6 of them measuring under .456 inches at 100 yards. In semi-auto rifles, 1MOA is about all you can really ask for, but this rifle sets a new standard. Yes, there are other rifles out there that are quality guns, but paired with the customer service you get from the LaRue staff, there isn't anything out there that comes close. The recoil is less than my GA Precision .308 bolt action rifle, as accurate as all my bolt guns, and for a semi-auto this rifle is surprisingly easy to clean. The carbon does not bake itself onto the bolt requiring scraper tools to clean it off. I am beyond impressed with the quality and workmanship that you see in this rifle. Paired with good optics, the sky is the limit with this rifle.

Having gotten into the AR game a little late, I ordered this rifle more than a year and a half ago, not knowing how long the wait will be. Reading how others had already been waiting a year by the time I placed my order. I decided to build a few AR 15s while I waited. Spending my money on quality parts. when I finally got the email that my rifle was ready, I was taken by surprise, having just come out of surgery, literally, hospital bed and all, hooked up to an IV and coming out of anesthesia. I was so excited, and couldn't wait. Which helped on the recovery. When I finally got my hands on this piece of art, it felt like winning the lottery. The craftsman ship, the smoothness of the rifle charging. It was better than any of the rifles I built. And shot better too. The looks I got when I picked up the rifle at my FFL and at the range is just too much. Now I'm a regular customer at Larue.com and buy here, before looking elsewhere.

I'm just a normal guy who got into game hunting too late in life. So I have no time for starter guns. I wanted to build out a rewarding hog rifle and waited a long time for LaRue to work through its growth and backlog. This rifle is simply an awesome piece of machinery. My local dealer helped me outfit it with an Aimpoint Comp M4S, and an Aimpoint 3x magnifier, plus a Harris swivel bipod. I installed the optics and started setting up the rifle for our usual 70-yard hog shot, working at the 75-yard target at our range. After changing targets, the range went live and I dialed in a couple more adjustments. Shot 1 was an absolute dead ringer. I was shocked--that never happens to me...I usually settle for good enough. I breathed and shot 2 intersected the first. Now, I really couldn't believe it. Shot 3 also intersected the first. Now I had a three-shot group at 75-yards that I could cover with a nickel. I relaxed for 20 more minutes until the range went cold, because I wasn't about to ruin that target. Next live range, I put 18 more rounds on that target, only 2 of which just nicked the line into the 9-ring on an 8" Shoot-N-C target. Not a single shot had landed on its own--they all formed a big interconnected blur. I know this rifle is destined for great things, and it sure makes me look a better shooter. Florida's hogs should be worried. Thanks LaRue. B2B_DNA, Miami

Every part of this rifle exudes quality. Groups tighter than every other AR I have - sometimes even when using some subpar ammo. Fit and finish are superb. Not previously familiar with LaRue rifles, I was pleasantly surprised and impressed by the box of swag. So impressed that I shared the experience with my close friends. One of whom is a college professor who then shared it with his class. It's now an example of excellent customer service and differentiation product marketing in a college course.

We purchased this rifle based on it's outstanding reputation, to be used as one of the platforms to perform real world weapons testing for our line of Thermal Weapons Sights. We have not been disappointed. This thing is a work of mechanical art. Pretty much the perfect blend of mechanical design and function. We can put any load, or mix of loads into it, and it just doesn't care, it feeds everything without fail all day long. Accuracy is another vital component of our testing, and in this regards, it has also exceeded all expectations. All in all, an outstanding bit workmanship. Earl Osborn, OMC(SW),USN (Ret).
