The Optimized Sniper Sling is a versatile tactical sling used to enhance
repeatability and stability of the shooter resulting in increased first round
accuracy, ability to see trace and/or splash, and lighting fast follow-up shots.
This sling was specially designed with input from experienced snipers
incorporating essential functions for tactical use and a patented integrated
“bipod loading” mechanism.
The Concept of Bipod Loading:
“Loading the Bipod” is a term used to describe the pressure between the bipod
legs and the shooter’s shoulder which essentially locks the weapon into place
making an extremely stable firing position. This sling allows the shooter to
load the bipod when there isn’t an object to press the bipod legs against,
ensures equal pressure/ loading on every shot (repeatability), and gives the
shooter unmatched recoil management.
Prone Mode:
To fire in the prone position simply press the button on the quick disconnect
and assume the prone firing position. The sling can be used with the body loop
over one shoulder or the body loop under both arms (as shown in picture above).
With the non-firing hand, pull on the running end of the bipod tension strap to
force the stock rearward into the firing shoulder. This will lock the weapon
into place.
Single Point Mode:
The OSS allows the operator to maneuver and fire the weapon like a traditional
single point assault sling. The padded loop around the body is quickly adjusted
using a “Rucksack” style friction buckle. With the Bipod Tension Mechanism
attached, (as seen in standing figure to the right) the operator can quickly
assume any bipod stabilized firing position (standing, kneeling, prone).
Two-Point Mode:
To secure the weapon to the operator’s back (climbing or fast-roping ops), the
body loop is place around the stock of the weapon and the OSS is now used as a
traditional two point sling. This function places both the Bipod Tension
Mechanism buckle and the Body Loop friction buckle on the operator’s chest for
easy adjustment. The vertical bipod attachment loop prevents the bipod legs from
extending while the weapon is on the back.
The OSS will operate with many models of Harris Bipods Attached to Harris w/ integrated LT706.
I received my LaRue OSS about 2 weeks ago and I didn't know what to expect in terms of results from it. I understood the concept and how it was supposed to work but I had a doubt or two. The fit and finish of the product is simply top notch and that alone gives it 3 stars in my book. I put it on my rifle and I got it adjusted to the point it was comfortable and supported my "1TON" SPR. As far as comfort is concerned it will blow your mind! Why haven't I owned a sling this comfortable earlier!. I took it out for it fist range day and to see if I could either validate or lay to rest my doubts. They wer not only layed to rest but cocompletely obliterated from my mind. First 3 shot hit a 8 inch plate at 300 yards and the rifle nver moved, never shook, my cross hairs stayed fixed where I put them through all my shots that day.
The only reason I am not giving it 5 stars is simply due to one issue. The excess strap, its incredibly long and there is know where to put it. A couple of times I reached to grab my rifle while it was in single point mode and I would grab the excess strap at the same time
This sling was designed very well. The One point mode is by one of the most comfortable I have ever had wrapped around my body. When utilizing the bipod loading it keeps the buttstock firmly planted against your should and aids in follow up shots immensely. The hardware is all very solid and I am sure it will last a life time for me. My only reason for not giving it a 5 star rating however is right out of the box there were some small blemishes on the metal portions of the sling and some loose ends on the stitching, which is no big deal because I know I will put some good wear into it my self, however for a hundred bucks it's nice to see perfection. Other than that this is the perfect sling that adapts with my rife. I can use the QD on my LaRue bipod and hit the buckle on the OSS to drop it out of the way and then release my Optic from up top to transition from an excellent prone sling to a hell of a nice single point for up close shooting in about 30 seconds and then back again in another 30. I highly recommend this sling to any one that needs versatility as well as the utmost in stability and comfort while shooting prone or on the move.
I've shot an OBR 762 with an OSS, and it's amazing. It's as solid as shooting out of a Palma rig prone. The rifle says in the shoulder for follow-up shots and lets me maintain a rock sold natural point of aim. Wow.
