LaRue Tactical OBR 7.62 Overview:

View Individual State Variances

The LaRue OBR (Optimized Battle Rifle) was built from the ground up, using a newly designed upper-receiver platform, combined with a lower, inspired from our successful 5.56 MM lower. Both the upper and lower are CNC-machined from billet, for the optimum fit and consistency. The receiver components are designed with more material in critical areas to alleviate known issues of weakness in 7.62 platforms and to stiffen the receiver....translating into maximum accuracy.

The upper-rail provides generous room for all issue weapon-mounted night-vision day/night combinations (suitable for 7.62 MM). The built-in 20 MOA cant provides correct ballistic orientation for all inline night vision combinations. The MIL-STD-1913 side rails are detachable, so that they can be configured for Vis / IR illuminators, etc, or left off to keep rails pristine, without the need for bulky rail covers. The bottom rails are also detachable, and can be positioned anywhere along the entire lower length, for the interface of MIL-STD-1913 equipped bipods, grips, tripod mounts, etc. These rails are offered as spare parts for field-service replacement, keeping repair cost at a minimum.

Barrels:
Available in 16.1", 18" & 20" lengths. All gas blocks feature our unique Port Selector Technology (PST), a two-point adjustable gas selector that allows optimum function between suppressed, and unsuppressed operation at the flip of a switch. All barrels are threaded in 5/8 x 24, with an A2-type flash hider attached (other muzzle devices can be added at an additional cost).

Suppressor Compatibility:
LaRue 7.62 rifles with Port Selector Technology (PST) have been optimized for best-performance with SureFire suppressors. We understand that there are dozens of 7.62 suppressors to choose from on the market at this time. We feel that SureFire suppressors fall somewhere in the middle-range in regards to effect of performance with gas-operated rifles. Many users have met with success operating different models of their choice. Combined with variables in ammunition, 7.62 suppressor owners have experienced a large spectrum of conditions (much greater than seen with 5.56 suppressors). This range of variables is easy to manage with a bolt-action 7.62, but with a gas-operated system it is not. While we made a concerted effort to design a gas system that will work with a wide range of suppressors, we can not guarantee proper-function with suppressor hardware other than SureFire.

Internals:
The Bolts and Bolt Carriers are hand-polished hard-chrome with staked carrier keys. The carrier key contact areas are designed for zero gas leakage.

About LaRue Firearm Accuracy:
LaRue accuracy is known world-wide. The accuracy of each LaRue Rifle is proven at our 100-yard tunnel using match-grade ammunition. No LaRue firearm can leave the facility unless it obtains accuracy of less-than 1 MOA (1.047”) at 100 Yards. Each firearm ships with a copy of a 3-round group obtained from that actual firearm. While we guarantee the rifle is capable of sub-MOA accuracy, we can not guarantee the end-user will be able to shoot sub-MOA…since we have no control over shooting proficiency, familiarity with the system, ammunition choice, environmental factors, etc. LaRue firearms are precision instruments that require discipline, training, proper ammunition and maintenance to yield the best results.

Furniture:
Base Model comes complete with A2 Rifle Stock and LaRue medium A-PEG™ Grip, A2 Flash Hider, plus two LaRue-made 20-round magazines.

XTRAXN™ is a proprietary chamber feature added to reduce frictional forces caused by pressure-expanded cartridge cases bearing against chamber walls. Facilitates reliable extraction through a wide range of temperature / chamber pressure extremes. XTRAXN™ extends extractor life, while having no effect on the firearm's accuracy. All this, and it dovetails well with the OBR's world-famous accuracy.

I have owned a 20 inch OBR for over a year now. It is an awesome performer. The rifle shoots .5 inch MOA groups with an AAC 7.62 suppressor easily with 175 MK ammo. The best investment I have made. I am currently saving to purchase a 556 OBR. LaRue is absoluetly the best entity to do business with.

Just took my new 762 OBR to the range. Fired a 5 shot group less than 0.4 inch at 100yds using a 3-9x Leupold. Covered all shots entirely with a dime using Federal Premium Sierra Matchking 168gr ammo. Held 1 inch with 168 Ultrmax Boat Tail ammo. The SJC compensatory removed virtually all kick. Will be taking my new gun to sight in 500 yds at my friends farm after Christmas. Will get my LT111 qd mount this week to hold a 6.5 - 20x RZ1000.

An outstanding weapon system. Accuracy is superb, as is the craftsmanship. Shot sub minute groups at 500 meters and have zero doubt this system is more than capable at 1000. Mounted a Leupold Mk 6, 3-18, and fired Federal Match 175s. Never would've figured that a semi would rival, perhaps even best, my old M24 at extended range accuracy. The OBR has exceeded all of my expectations, as has the LaRue team.

I used the 20" OBR to win the 2010 International Sniper competition. I find it to be one of the finest shooting most accurate rifles in the world. If I could only have one rifle in th the world it would be a 7.62x51mm OBR. Every one has opinions but you can't deny facts. And the fact is my partner and I outshot .300WIN mang,.338 lapua mag .300 Norma, .300AI along with all other 7.62x51. We did so with M118LR 7.62 army ammo. We aren't some super snipers, we just knew our data and applid it to a rifle that is capable of sub minute groups and repeat accuracy. I would trust my life to this rifle and will enjoy shooting them for years. Edward Homeyer

This is my first "black" gun! The La Rue 7.62 20". The purchase was based on input from my friends...I wanted the best! This gun draws attention at the range. Luckily I had a Spec Ops soldier at the range to sight in the scope for me:); otherwise I would have spent $ doing it myself. That dude had envey in his eyes, so I let him pop off 50 round or so and the target looked like only 5 shots went through the bulls eye. Looking forward to purchasing two Costas in March.

Pros: Fit, finish and function are perfect. The Larue MBT trigger is easy to get used to with it's crisp let-off. Well under 1 MOA consistently with the right ammo. Cons: Only one. The EXTRAXN chamber fluting. It apparently enhances the rifle's reliability and certainly there is nothing wrong with that. Especially if you are a serviceman or other professional. For the rest of us shooters who like to reload, it is an issue. I had stuck cases in my RCBS FL sizing die and ran into trouble using my Redding die as well. I read about this issue on some of the forums and decided to try what one of them suggested. I bought a Dillon Precision Carbide die set. Problem solved. Sprayed with Hornady One Shot and everything went smooth as silk. Look boys, if you are going to put out $3,400.00 for a fine rifle, put another $1,400.00 into glass and a mount, spend the $169.00 and get the Dillon Die Set.

I received my 20" 7.62 OBR w/PRS stock and monopod in early January 2015. The rifle has been great. Mine shipped with a target that printed a 0.592" 3-shot group from the factory. Very impressive from an autoloader with factory ammo. I'm not sure they still have this option, but I have the SSA-E trigger and absolutely love it. The only down fall of the rifle is the chamber (in my opinion). The XTRAXN chamber is a fluted chamber. I know this is a great feature for military personnel, but for reloaders, it is a headache when resizing brass. After resizing the first 80 pieces fired through this rifle, I had 3 stuck cases which is something I've never experienced in about 5000 .308 reloads. I wish I would have had more details on the XTRAXN chamber before I bought the rifle. Perhaps LaRue may consider offering the XTRAXN chamber as an option? All in all, an exceptional rifle. Even with my reloading problem, I am very happy and it is an absolute joy to shoot.

When I deployed to Afghanistan we had another brand. I had to use it. It had some things I liked about it but it was unreliable and could never get it to shoot sub MOA and it was a 20" version. One of our other specialty groups experienced similar reliability problems so we sent them all back. I was permitted to order Larue OBRs and having heard of some issues with shorter 7.62s in several of the manufactures I ordered 18" barrels. The day we got them I mounted the S&B PM II 3-12x50 and after the gym the next morning headed to the range. After zeroing at 100m I started transitioning up the hill shooting steel targets in various shapes and condition we leave set up. I've been carrying this gun for two years now and really appreciate the craftsmanship, functionality and performance. A good friend in the special group is here now and he runs one at 16" suppressed and we both bang the heck out of targets scattered up the mountain as small as a mini popper out to 400m and chest plates out to 900m. I'll be ordering a personal 18" OBR soon!

Sub-MOA semi auto... Works as advertised on its first outing! I planned on only buying one AR-10 platform and the OBR was well worth the wait! Just a beautiful gun, and a pleasure to shoot. Set up with the LaRue LT111 QD scope rings, LaRue/Harris bipod, Leupold Mark 4 scope, Magpul PRS stock, and Surefire vortex flash hider... Puts shots on top of each other at 100 yds.... Absolutely love this thing!

Ordered 20" OBR in October landed in early December. Solid and super well made. Thanks for the hat and extra copies of the Constitution. I found the online ordering process to be super easy. My FFL tried to buy it from me. Phone calls to Larue friendly, respectful and helpful- can't say that for every company or distributor. Loved it some much I ordered a 5.56 the following week which surprisingly was sent to me about a month later.

I finally received my 20” OBR after waiting over 18 months; it was worth the wait! I did put a few accessories on my rifle such as the RISR/CTR Combo, POD, Atlas Bipod and Mono Pod, Surefire Muzzle Brake/Adapter, Nightforce ATACR with LT111 Mount, and a Surefire SOCOM Suppressor (still waiting on the suppressor). I took this rifle out for the first time and using mid-grade 150 grain ammo, I was able to the gun where I wanted it at 100 yards. I then turned to a steel target at 400 yards and put down 4 shots before getting rained out. Still using the mid-grade ammo, this group of 4 produced a spread of about 4” across at the widest point. I was able to put about 20 rounds through the gun before the rain. Finally this week I snuck back out with this rifle and after cleaning it and purchasing some Hornady Match 168 grain ammo (don’t have my reloading equipment set up yet) I shot at 1,000 yards. With this ammo, I was able to get on target quickly with a slight cross wind and low light. After getting on target, I then shot 4 rounds creating a group under 8” at its widest point. A friend who does competition shooting was there with a 300WM, 338RUM, and 6.5CM (all custom built for competition) and the OBR didn’t have a single issuing keeping up. I only have great things to say about this rifle and everyone at Larue; staff is knowledgeable and helpful; gun is machined perfectly, fit and finish is spot on, and most importantly... it IS accurate. An 8” group at 1,000 yards with off-the-shelf box ammo.
