LaRue Tactical OBR 7.62 Overview:

View Individual State Variances

The LaRue OBR (Optimized Battle Rifle) was built from the ground up, using a newly designed upper-receiver platform, combined with a lower, inspired from our successful 5.56 MM lower. Both the upper and lower are CNC-machined from billet, for the optimum fit and consistency. The receiver components are designed with more material in critical areas to alleviate known issues of weakness in 7.62 platforms and to stiffen the receiver....translating into maximum accuracy.

The upper-rail provides generous room for all issue weapon-mounted night-vision day/night combinations (suitable for 7.62 MM). The built-in 20 MOA cant provides correct ballistic orientation for all inline night vision combinations. The MIL-STD-1913 side rails are detachable, so that they can be configured for Vis / IR illuminators, etc, or left off to keep rails pristine, without the need for bulky rail covers. The bottom rails are also detachable, and can be positioned anywhere along the entire lower length, for the interface of MIL-STD-1913 equipped bipods, grips, tripod mounts, etc. These rails are offered as spare parts for field-service replacement, keeping repair cost at a minimum.

Barrels:
Available in 16.1", 18" & 20" lengths. All gas blocks feature our unique Port Selector Technology (PST), a two-point adjustable gas selector that allows optimum function between suppressed, and unsuppressed operation at the flip of a switch. All barrels are threaded in 5/8 x 24, with an A2-type flash hider attached (other muzzle devices can be added at an additional cost).

Suppressor Compatibility:
LaRue 7.62 rifles with Port Selector Technology (PST) have been optimized for best-performance with SureFire suppressors. We understand that there are dozens of 7.62 suppressors to choose from on the market at this time. We feel that SureFire suppressors fall somewhere in the middle-range in regards to effect of performance with gas-operated rifles. Many users have met with success operating different models of their choice. Combined with variables in ammunition, 7.62 suppressor owners have experienced a large spectrum of conditions (much greater than seen with 5.56 suppressors). This range of variables is easy to manage with a bolt-action 7.62, but with a gas-operated system it is not. While we made a concerted effort to design a gas system that will work with a wide range of suppressors, we can not guarantee proper-function with suppressor hardware other than SureFire.

Internals:
The Bolts and Bolt Carriers are hand-polished hard-chrome with staked carrier keys. The carrier key contact areas are designed for zero gas leakage.

About LaRue Firearm Accuracy:
LaRue accuracy is known world-wide. The accuracy of each LaRue Rifle is proven at our 100-yard tunnel using match-grade ammunition. No LaRue firearm can leave the facility unless it obtains accuracy of less-than 1 MOA (1.047”) at 100 Yards. Each firearm ships with a copy of a 3-round group obtained from that actual firearm. While we guarantee the rifle is capable of sub-MOA accuracy, we can not guarantee the end-user will be able to shoot sub-MOA…since we have no control over shooting proficiency, familiarity with the system, ammunition choice, environmental factors, etc. LaRue firearms are precision instruments that require discipline, training, proper ammunition and maintenance to yield the best results.

Furniture:
Base Model comes complete with A2 Rifle Stock and LaRue medium A-PEG™ Grip, A2 Flash Hider, plus two LaRue-made 20-round magazines.

XTRAXN™ is a proprietary chamber feature added to reduce frictional forces caused by pressure-expanded cartridge cases bearing against chamber walls. Facilitates reliable extraction through a wide range of temperature / chamber pressure extremes. XTRAXN™ extends extractor life, while having no effect on the firearm's accuracy. All this, and it dovetails well with the OBR's world-famous accuracy.

Mark and Team Larue have created a weapon system that fills the void between battle rifle and SASS. They have outdone any other manufacturer in build quality, accuracy, precision and workmanship. This is the only gun you will ever need.

I bought one of the demo OBR's from last years range day. I have been extremely impressed with performance using a variety of ammunition. I have run everything from super hot Hornady SST .308's to GI spec M-80 Ball ammo in my OBR with some very impressive results. To me, the most impressive was last week when I ran 100 rounds of Silver State factory 2nd M-80 ammo in just over 20 minutes. Even with 2nds my groups were running about 1 MOA with a gusty switching wind. On my last 20 rd magazine, I put all 20 rounds in a 3 inch diamond in less than 45 seconds. My next Larue will be a .556 PredatAR!

I received my new OBR with the 18 inch barrel 2 weeks ago and it is absolutely awesome. I put a NightForce NXS 32 power on it with the MOAR reticle and the combination is unbeatable. This gun is every bit as accurate as my Sako TRG-22 bolt gun. FYI you must resize your brass if you reload as the chamber is extremely tight. Way to go LaRue!!

I have a 16" OBR that is one of the first run. I have over 1200 rds through it and have shot 1/2 MOA with everything from 42 year old lake city match to Hornady Amax. I have switched several folks on to the OBR and have seen them begin to take over some serious work gun markets. This has truely changed precision 7.62 shooting theories.

I have 600+ rounds through mine with about 100 with a suppressor (just got the suppressor, most future rounds will be with it), most 500yds+. It is incredibly accurate and usually boringly reliable. I was surprised how little gas was coming back on suppressed mode. I also highly suggest this rifle for any distance shooting out to 1K. Fit and finish are what you would expect from a team with Larue’s eye for detail.

Recently went through a sniper course. Out of the 10 bolt rifles and 4 semi-autos, 2 bolt guns went down and ALL of the semi-autos broke - except my 7.62 OBR. We were shooting so much, people that had plastic rail clips were having them melt off. I shot suppressed and you could see the barrel discolor and the blowback/heat actually discoloring the copper jackets on the remaining bullets in the magazine. We were dropping magazines in the dirt and picking up ammo from the ground and reloading them in to the guns. It was dirty, hot and fast but my OBR handled it all. Don't get me wrong, I had malfunctions but so did everyone else. But as long as I kept the OBR really (really) wet - malfunctions were not a problem. We were hitting 9x15" targets past 1400 yards and I am confident we could have easily done a mile. Larue has made an OUTSTANDING rifle. Not only is the 7.62 OBR just as accurate as any bolt gun, it does so in crappy conditions. Most importantly, it was the only semi-auto that finished the class. Every other semi-auto broke, literally- unserviceable for the rest of the class. If you are going to be in a gun fight, you need this rifle.

I ordered my 18" LaRue OBR 7.62 the week of Thanksgiving 2014 and received it the first week of January 2015. Almost 4 months sooner that originally stated. After mounting the Larue QD scope rings and base to a Nightforce 5.5X22X50, I was already on paper with first shot at 100 yards. after 3 other rounds down range I was shooting and holding under a .25 MOA. Impressive. After a thorough cleaning between rounds ( I believe in a barrel break in process) I moved it out to 600 yards and even then I managed to walk away with a 3.65 spread shooting Federal Gold Match 175 grain. I'm positive my hand loads will out shoot this and the accuracy will improve over time. This tool is a true piece of well machined and crafted with American Pride piece of steel and aluminum. I have no complaints. Now moving on to the ability to re-route the gas for a suppressor! What an ingenious idea. I mounted my Surefire SOCOM can and it ran like a well oiled sewing machine. Ejected every time and the accuracy only improved. Great match up with the Surefire and LaRue OBR. Overall I give the LaRue OBR a Grade A+. I have shot many factory match and custom rifles holding my HS Precision to a high standard, however for an Semi Auto rifle, this shoots as well if not better. Did I mention the Dillo Dust and stickers, hat? As for the copies of a document that many have spit on, cursed and degraded, The US Constitution, this made the purchase a worth wild investment. The only thing that would have made it better was a Texas Flag and an American Flag patch. Well if you don't like it or respect it, you can kiss my American Ass. Hats off to the Larue Team.

My 18" OBR with SOCOM brake was delivered after a year and twenty four week wait and after getting the rifle I was immediately overwhelmed at the craftsmanship put into making it. The wait was well worth it! I haven't been able to shoot it yet as I'm waiting on my scope to come in. As soon as it does, I will be right to the range. After looking over the rifle and seeing the precision workmanship from fit to finish, I know the new barrels LaRue is now making will stand up nicely to the rest of the weapon system. I did dry fire the rifle and really loved the two stage trigger. This was not my first LaRue purchase but it was my first LaRue rifle and I have to say the customer service was outstanding Thanks LaRue

Sure, you can save a few bucks and get something else. Maybe you don't care if your trigger is creepy and sloppy. Perhaps MOA is good enough. But, if you want to make the custom bolt gun guys feel bad, you need an OBR. I've never seen a gas gun able to neuter fleas at 100 yards until I came across this bad boy. It's not all hype, these rifles are extremely accurate and consistent. I've had the pleasure of swapping with guys who bought BCMs, LMTs, and LWRCs. After a few shots, I have to pry my LaRue OBR away from them. You can see the buyer's remorse on their face as they reluctantly take back their non-LaRue wannabes. They are worth every penny and then some!

I waited nearly 18 months for my rifle and it was well worth the wait. I had several opportunities to pick up other .308 platforms and cancel the Larue order...so glad that I didn't. This is one of the finest firearms that I have ever encountered. As an engineering student and gun aficionado I really appreciate the detail that Larue has put into their designs. I have not had the time to sit down and do load development for my rifle yet but with factory ammunition and little effort I obtained .53 moa groupings (would have been better had I not flinched). While I may have been lucky and happened to stumble upon ammunition that matched up with the rifle harmonics, something tells me that this rifle is going to fire pretty damn well with a variety of ammunition. I believe this will be capable of .25 moa with the correct load development. Outstanding quality and reliability. Larue stands behind their products and per my own experience, their customer service is top notch. (Don't overlook this point...I have dealt with firearm companies with horrible customer service before.)Thank you Larue!

I received my 18" 7.62 OBR after a little over 2 years total wait. The fit and finish of the rifle is amazing, but the accuracy is what really stands out to me. Once I received the final version with the in house LaRue match grade barrel, I immediately took it out to be sighted in. My test target for the rifle was .540. I was able to achieve a .357 grouping. All of my groups were sub 3/4" with most under sub 1/2" moa. Words really can't express how pleased I am with this rifle. I would highly recommend this rifle or any other LaRue rifle to everyone, you won't be disappointed. Worth the Wait!
