LaRue Tactical OBR 7.62 Overview:
The LaRue OBR (Optimized Battle Rifle) was built from the ground up, using a
newly designed upper-receiver platform, combined with a lower, inspired from our
successful 5.56 MM lower. Both the upper and lower are CNC-machined from billet,
for the optimum fit and consistency. Machined from billet 7075-T6, the receiver
components are designed with more material in critical areas to alleviate known
issues of weakness in 7.62 platforms and to stiffen the receiver....translating
into maximum accuracy.
The upper-rail provides generous room for all issue weapon-mounted night-vision
day/night combinations (suitable for 7.62 MM). The built-in cant provides
correct ballistic orientation for all inline night vision combinations. The
MIL-STD-1913 side rails are detachable, so that they can be configured for Vis /
IR illuminators, etc, or left off to keep rails pristine, without the need for
bulky rail covers. The bottom rails are also detachable, and can be positioned
anywhere along the entire lower length, for the interface of MIL-STD-1913
equipped bipods, grips, tripod mounts, etc. These rails are offered as spare
parts for field-service replacement, keeping repair cost at a minimum.
Barrels:
The barrels are Stainless Steel in 16.1", 18" & 20" lengths. All gas blocks feature our unique Port Selector Technology (PST), a two-point adjustable gas selector that allows optimum function between suppressed, and unsuppressed operation at the flip of a switch. All barrels are threaded in 5/8 x 24, with an A2-type flash hider attached (other muzzle devices can be added at an additional cost).
Suppressor Compatibility
LaRue 7.62 rifles with Port Selector Technology (PST) have been optimized for
best-performance with SureFire suppressors. We understand that there are dozens
of 7.62 suppressors to choose from on the market at this time. We feel that
SureFire suppressors fall somewhere in the middle-range in regards to effect of
performance with gas-operated rifles. Many users have met with success operating
different models of their choice. Combined with variables in ammunition, 7.62
suppressor owners have experienced a large spectrum of conditions (much greater
than seen with 5.56 suppressors). This range of variables is easy to manage with
a bolt-action 7.62, but with a gas-operated system it is not. While we made a
concerted effort to design a gas system that will work with a wide range of
suppressors, we can not guarantee proper-function with suppressor hardware other
than SureFire.
Internals:
The Bolts and Bolt Carriers are hand-polished hard-chrome with max-staked
carrier keys. The carrier key contact areas are designed for zero gas leakage.
The trigger group is the excellent Geissele SSA Combat Trigger. The SSA provides
an average 4.5lb pull weight.(2.5 lbs on the first stage and 2lb on the second
stage).
Furniture:
Base Model comes complete with A2 Rifle Stock and LaRue medium A-PEG™ Grip, A2 Flash Hider, plus
two LaRue-made 20-round magazines.

XTRAXN™ is a proprietary chamber feature added to reduce frictional forces
caused by pressure-expanded cartridge cases bearing against chamber walls.
Facilitates reliable extraction through a wide range of temperature / chamber
pressure extremes. XTRAXN™ extends extractor life, while having no effect on the
firearm's accuracy. All this, and it dovetails well with the OBR's world-famous
accuracy.

I have about 600 rounds through this rifle with absolutely zero complaints. It preforms incredibly at range, and it's just as good for running and gunning. Larue has earned a life-long customer with me.
Accurate as any bolt gun, and the build quality is top-notch. Yes, I'm the cool kid on the block with the baddest 7.62 around. It's clearly better than me.
Fit and finish is absolutely amazing...by far the tightest fitting AR-style rifle I have seen. My test target was .475, and the gun lives up to it, and then some. Shooting suppressed, very little gas blow back.
One of the best rifles ever made. I have a few custom ARs and even a custom made bolt gun. I would grab my OBR as my "end of the world" gun hands down over any other weapon of mine or any other I've shot. If you are thinking about buying an OBR, do it do it do it!!!
I am a MIL Sniper. This is hands down one of the best rifles I have ever fired. We use this as our primary system for competition. It's well worth the money.

If it could cook and clean I might leave my wife..... 300 rounds so far and PERFECT. Came with a test target of .529 The gun and company are the REAL deal. This was my first larue purchase and the customer service after the sale has been top notch. I will be buying an OBR lite as well. The only problem is you will consider selling your other guns. Once you own this it will be the only one you want to shoot!!!!!
THANK YOU LARUE......
I dont have enough good things to say about rifle. Chamber is a bit tight if you are a reloader just FYI. Accuracy is amazing and better than most bolt guns.
Mark and Team Larue have created a weapon system that fills the void between battle rifle and SASS. They have outdone any other manufacturer in build quality, accuracy, precision and workmanship. This is the only gun you will ever need.
I have one of the Pre Order OBR 18" weapon Systems. I have over 3500 rounds thru it. My rifle has gone from a SASS system to a Run and Gun system and back again. Mark and his team has hit a home run with this rifle. The 18" if you are looking for a duel role weapon is the way to go.
I have a 16" OBR that is one of the first run. I have over 1200 rds through it and have shot 1/2 MOA with everything from 42 year old lake city match to Hornady Amax. I have switched several folks on to the OBR and have seen them begin to take over some serious work gun markets. This has truely changed precision 7.62 shooting theories.
I bought one of the demo OBR's from last years range day. I have been extremely impressed with performance using a variety of ammunition. I have run everything from super hot Hornady SST .308's to GI spec M-80 Ball ammo in my OBR with some very impressive results.
To me, the most impressive was last week when I ran 100 rounds of Silver State factory 2nd M-80 ammo in just over 20 minutes. Even with 2nds my groups were running about 1 MOA with a gusty switching wind. On my last 20 rd magazine, I put all 20 rounds in a 3 inch diamond in less than 45 seconds.
My next Larue will be a .556 PredatAR!
I own a 18 inch OBR and my brother has a 16 inch OBR. We will both tell you that dollar for dollar, this is the finest 7.62 rifle you can buy. These rifles out shoot my custom Remington 700P sniper rifle. Team Larue is the BEST!
Best weapon system out on the market today! With my 18"OBR and the Horus system I can reach out past 1200 yards. I get chills everytime I pull the trigger!
I have 600+ rounds through mine with about 100 with a suppressor (just got the suppressor, most future rounds will be with it), most 500yds+. It is incredibly accurate and usually boringly reliable. I was surprised how little gas was coming back on suppressed mode. I also highly suggest this rifle for any distance shooting out to 1K. Fit and finish are what you would expect from a team with Larue’s eye for detail.
This is an excellent rifle. Very high craftsmanship. With my 18" OBR I have shot targets at 1100yards. Highly suggest this rifle for long distance shooting.
