Drafter

Uses Solidworks CAD equipment to provide support to Engineers by developing and preparing routine layouts, 2D drawings, assigning part numbers and descriptions, preparing specifications and engineering changes per ASME drafting standards. This position will assist in document control, and will create and maintain systems and documents for proper production flow. Make copies of drawings and maintains information regarding changes to database. Generates Bills of Materials and Engineering change notices. Will create flat pattern DXF files for waterjet. Makes simple decisions but refers most questions/problems to Engineers or Supervisor. Solid understanding of drafting techniques and familiarity with Engineering terminology. Mechanical aptitude with ability to complete basic mathematical calculations. Familiarity of CAD/CAM equipment and relationship of CAD to CAM.
 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Uses computer assisted design/drafting (SolidWorks CAD) equipment and software to develop designs.

  • Create and revise production drawings (detail and assembly drawings).

  • Makes final sketch of proposed drawing, checking dimension of parts, materials to be used, relation of one part to another, and relation of various parts to whole structure or project.

  • Sketches rough layout of product and computes angles, weights, surface areas, dimensions, radii, clearances, tolerances, leverages, and location of holes.

  • Utilizes knowledge of various machines, engineering practices, mathematics, building materials, and other physical sciences to complete drawings.

  • Drafts detailed multiview drawings of machine and products.

  • Draws finished designs from sketches.

  • Responsible for setting up and maintaining an organized file system for Production Drawings.

  • Communicate with Tooling, QA, Engineering, and Manufacturing regarding new and revised prints.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS
Excellent written and verbal English communication skills. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports, operating instructions and correspondence.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

REASONING ABILITY
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES
High skill level in SolidWorks CAD software. Skilled in PC usage and associated software including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, and Powerpoint). Ability to learn new graphic software to compliment the presentation of new SolidWorks designs. Familiarity with Geometric Dimension and Tolerance principles. Experience with Product Data Management/Document Control System software is beneficial.
