PredatAR 5.56 Overview

View Individual State Variances

The PredatAR 5.56 is designed for those who are searching for a lightweight, ultra-reliable and accurate 5.56 mm NATO rifle for home-defense, competition-shooting or hunting. The PredatAR takes the highly accurate OBR 5.56 “Lite” design, and lightens it in every possible way with the least possible impact to the accuracy that the standard OBR is known for. By contouring the barrel, skeletonizing the handguard, lowering and simplifying the upper rail, and using a low-profile gas block, we were able to reduce roughly 2 pounds from the standard OBR 5.56 rifle.

The barrels are lightweight-profiled with rifling in a 1/8 twist rate. All barrels are threaded in ½ x 28, with an A2 flash hider attached* (other muzzle devices can be added at an additional cost).

The handguards on the PredatAR extend out 14.75”, to suit a larger range of shooting styles. The zero-MOA upper rail provides plenty of room for weapon-mounted night-vision day/night combinations. Both the upper and lower are CNC-machined from billet aluminum for the optimum fit and consistency. Even though we lightened certain features, there is still additional material in strategic areas to achieve maximum accuracy. Each rifle ships with one, 3” long, MIL-STD-1913 detachable rail section.

Both models come with a 6-position LaRue RAT Stock and LaRue medium A-PEG™ Grip. The Bolt Carriers are hand-polished hard-chrome with staked carrier keys, with Texas-Spec Bolt assemblies.

(Iron Sights, Optics and QD mounts not included in price)
Base model includes LaRue RAT Stock and LaRue medium A-PEG™ Grip, 1 Aluminum Magazine, 1 Rail Strip, and A2 Flash Hider.

About LaRue Firearm Accuracy:
LaRue accuracy is known world-wide. The accuracy of each LaRue Rifle is proven at our 100-yard tunnel using match-grade ammunition. No LaRue firearm can leave the facility unless it obtains accuracy of less-than 1 MOA (1.047”) at 100 Yards. Each firearm ships with a copy of a 3-round group obtained from that actual firearm. While we guarantee the rifle is capable of sub-MOA accuracy, we can not guarantee the end-user will be able to shoot sub-MOA…since we have no control over shooting proficiency, familiarity with the system, ammunition choice, environmental factors, etc. LaRue firearms are precision instruments that require discipline, training, proper ammunition and maintenance to yield the best results.

PredatAR is a registered trademark.

XTRAXN™ is a proprietary chamber feature added to reduce frictional forces caused by pressure-expanded cartridge cases bearing against chamber walls. Facilitates reliable extraction through a wide range of temperature / chamber pressure extremes. XTRAXN™ extends extractor life, while having no effect on the firearm's accuracy. All this, and it dovetails well with the OBR's world-famous accuracy.

I have run 700+ rounds through my 16.1" PredatAR 556 with the Trijicon ACOG Army Optic 4 X 32 with Green Illum w/ LaRue LT100 Mount. This rifle truly performs to advertised specifications! (-)1" groups at 100 yds with M855. I have had zero malfunctions with this rifle thus far. The ACOG and the rifle perform well together putting up great shot groups out to 300 yds so far. Target aqusisition is very fast with the ACOG, which makes for quick and fun target engagement. The Surefire 556BK compensator/ suppressor mount is no joke! The guys on the phone at LT said it keeps the muzzle in the "A" zone, and it sure as hell does! I couldn't be happier with my purchase! I will be ordering a 7.62 OBR next! Thanks for the great products and unparralled customer service! Thanks to all at LaRue Tactical for making a grunt's dreams come true!

Great rifle for the money. I was told to not expect to see it for 5-6 weeks. I had it in my hands two weeks and two days later. I guess they are catching up on their backorder. I got out to shoot the rifle and it shot great, trigger is an awesome part of the rifle. Nice clean break! I mainly dealt with Luke, and he was so helpfull to me throughout the entire process. Thanks LaRue for such a great product. If I buy another AR, it will be a LaRue!

16" 5.56 PredatAR - A production rifle, although Mark and his team aren't exactly your typical production manufacturer, that shoots a myriad of ammo types from 55 gr. FMJ to 62 gr. Penetrators and consistently shoots 5 shot groups of ~1" is beyond insane!!! I can't imagine what it will do with match grade ammo, but then again with this kind of accuracy why waste the money...FANTASTIC JOB and "best bang for the buck" out there. Tim W.

The PredatAR offers light weight with superb accuracy. Now, I must have the PredatAR 7.62. It will be the ultimate whitetail guide gun for me. LaRue Tactical can't be beat.

I've owned several AR15's and I honestly must say, the fit and finish are the best I've seen. The machining tolerances are so close its unbelievable. When you pull the pivot pin the upper and lower stay attached because they fit so well, you honestly have to use physical pressure to separate them. It's a love story of machinery, they want to stay together and fight it out in an epic harmony of firepower, something you truly have to hold and manipulate yourself to really appreciate. I'm absolutely 100% certain this the best AR15 currently on the market. I can't believe how accurate this gun is while only weighing 6.5lbs. Now I understand why there is such a growing fan-base to this company. I think I just turned into a fanboy. The 762 OBR is next on my list

An associate advised me to get some match-grade ammo and my groups got smaller by half. You have to shoot the good stuff to realize the accuracy that the PredatAR is famous for. I've never had a weapon system that I was more proud of and one that shows my serious shooter friends that I appreciate owning the best tool for the job. I can't wait for Range Day. Why is there nothing in place to notify you when you purchase and pay for it? The same thing happened several months back when I tried order an Aimpoint Micro. I ordered it, and then called and asked for an estimated delivery. Their response was, "oh, we don't even HAVE those yet." Why have something up for order on your website when it's not even available or comes with a months-long lead time? I love the quality of LaRue products and their service has always been great. They are adored on all the forums I belong to. But I've come to learn that adulation can be very fleeting, especially in today's viral environment. Not good, LaRue. Not good at all.

It took 20 months to get mine and it was well worth the wait. Even decked out with a light, folding sights, and an Aimpoint H1 it is still very light weight. I don't think you can beat the quality that has went into this rifle. I own several LaRue products and have never been disappointed in any of them, but the PredatAR takes craftsmanship to an entirely new level. The rifle is certainly more accurate than any other AR I have fired before. It seems a waste to just have a red dot on it. I will be adding a PredatOBR to my LaRue collection soon.

What more can I say than has already been posted all over LaRue's website. LaRue Tactical is one of those companies that I go out of my way to do business with. These guys are absolutely top notch in every single way a company should be. Only the highest precision products with quality second to none, and 100% made in America! Pricing is always competitive, shipping is fast, satisfaction guarantee is unbelievable, and "cutting corners" is nowhere in their vocabulary. Many times there one finds companies that have first rate products that outshine their competition, but the pricing is out of line, often times costing much more than seems plausible, only because the demand of their products is so high that they can charge whatever they want. Not LaRue. Take for example two years ago prior to the Netown incident, PredatAR 5.56 sold for $1,682.00 while brands like Colt's ubiquitous LE6920 sold for around $1,200.00. Anyone that has compared these two items will vouch for the superiority of the LaRue. Now fast forward 6 months later, Colt's product is selling for $2,000 + due to high demand and even the "value brands" like DPMS which sold for $600.00 - $800.00 are selling for $1,600 + and actually hard to find. So let's see....what is LaRue's pricing now that the panic buying is in full frenzy?......$1,682.00? That's right, $1,682.00; not a penny more, not a penny less. So what does this tell me? LaRue refuses to treat their customers like a commodity; public panic purchasing ensues because of a volatile political climate but LaRue refuses to price gouge customers like just about every other maker did. They simply continued taking order while letting customers know that LaRue would fulfill orders as fast as they could while maintaining the stringent quality control for which they are so well known. Two plus years of inflation later, how much is that same rifle today? $1,682.00. And you even get the latest upgrades like their XTRAXN technology; no additional cost, they simply include it as yet another enhancement to their already superior product lines. As long as this company continues it's business and manufacturing practices as they do today, I be a customer for life. And hey, if you don't have to coin to spend for a LaRue right now, I understand; many just don't have the budget. But let me tell you this; if you decide to wait and save up a bit longer to buy a LaRue product, not only will you be glad you did but you will never go back to any other 5.56 or 7.62 AR platform brand. Every single piece of their weapons systems exudes the highest craftsmanship available. They are an astounding testament to what a committed and dedicated group of people can achieve when they set their standards to what seem to most, unattainable levels....and then they even exceed those standards. It leaves one almost breathless and proud to call these men and women American brothers and sisters. If you have never seen a LaRue rifle, do yourself a favor and at least find one to hold, inspect, and study if you want to see the level of craft and precision capable and available in American manufacturing today. I believe it will leave you quite speechless. Kudos LaRue....you all really are THE BEST!

Can't believe how light it is and it puts rounds down range as advertised. I own several AR's and I would not go through the wait or hassle again. During the wait the staff (when you could reach them) were not friendly or helpful. Now that I am an owner they treat me like a King. Hope they catch up on orders and keep building great rifles. Only time will tell if they do. Customer service can make or break a good company. My experience with LaRue's service has left a bad taste in my mouth. Wish it weren't so.

If you are law enforcement in a "banned" state, consider carefully prior to buying from LaRue. I am in law enforcement in California and legally able to own a "non-compliant" rifle. I contacted LaRue via phone to ensure that I was able to purchase their standard rifle. However, they shipped the rifle with a bullet button. They did not communicate that they were going to do that. My order form indicated I was going to receive a standard rifle. They didn't bother to send an email or make a phone call to advise of the change in the order. I called LaRue Customer Service to ask about the issue. The customer service guy was polite and professional, but was not willing to do more than apologize. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend LaRue to other law enforcement professionals in "banned" states.

Super solid rifle. Clearly, it was built meticulously with quality being priority. The shipping time was nothing short of impressive. When I called, I was quoted 4 months for delivery. I placed my order on December 2nd, received an email to confirm shipment on the 4th. TWO days until it shipped. It arrived at my shop on the 11th. So 9 days from the date of order placed to rifle in hand. The fit between the lower and upper is very snug and solid. It gives you a reassurance that this is no ordinary "off the wall" AR at your local shop, this is is something else, something better, something worth using. I was excited to say the least. Great staff, great communication and even better products. Thanks again Larue Tactical.

I'm pretty darn certain that PredetAR is a synonym for awesome. It looks good, feels great, and will put bullets on target all day. I pared it with a Millet 4-16 X 50 via the LT104 mount and couldn't be happier.with the groupin. It's always nice to see the jealousy on others faces.

This is the best rifle of this kind available at any price. I have been a machinist for 30 years and i am impressed with the level of detail that they have put into this rifle. Often times in life your expectations go up as you wait for something until you are disappointed when the day arrives. That is not the case with this rifle, I was blown away. It is nice to find a company that is not all about the bottom line and making every penny they can by cutting corners. It is easy to see they want the cutomer to have the best product that they can produce. After shooting this rifle i want to order another one right away, it makes the rest of the rifles i have seem poor in comparision. thanks Larue

Hands down the best AR available. I hate to admit it but it's definitely worth the wait. I waited 21 months and would do it again. Here's my testament, got my .556 and 1 week later I ordered a .762. How's that for being satisfied. My Noveske will now take a back seat to my Larue. I'm a huge Noveske fan and it's not even close. (Sorry John) So save up your don't tell momma money and be patient. It's worth it!

Rocketman_FL I waited 18 months for my rifle. Mainly due to events we all know about and do not care to bring up again. First trip to my property to sight in my Aimpoint red dot T-1 micro. Sighted in within a few minutes but it started to rain so I called it quits for the day. Just got back from the Range yesterday and shot 1 30 rd mag, all at 80 yards ( our longest range ) first 3 shots were on paper As I wanted to see how it grouped.. Well I could just about see my targets 2 in diamond so I basically aimed for the middle of the paper, 1 shot was only 1in off to the right and the other two about 3 inches to the left, very hard to see the diamond at eighty yards with the red dot so the results were not really too surprising to me. What was very impressing is the next 27 rounds sent down to the 6 in steel target hit it every time. I didn't take but time to aim and shoot, not super fast but .. Point, aim & shoot. My friend standing next to me watching tells me, "wow John you hit it every single time".. I said you get what you pay for. Great rifle, I love it.

Yes, the wait is worth it. Yes, it is under priced for what you get. Yes, after shooting it the interest in shooting my other AR waned. No regrets. Very happy.

Waited one year, seven months, three weeks and 2 days. Yesterday I shot it for the first time. First ten shots were sighting in the optic. The last ten shots were inside a dime at one hundred yards. Un-freakin-believable. My only regret is that I didn't by this rifle 15 years ago.

Great rifle! I had a one year, seven month wait which I wasn't impressed with, but the rifle quality lives up to LaRue standards. In my mind, it was worth spending a little more and worth waiting awhile longer to get the LaRue vs. lesser competition. During times when the next gun ban push could just be a week or month away though, the wait was agonizing. But everything worked out & I received my rifle ... a total work of fine art with great accuracy!

PredatAR 5.56, 16" barrel. Very nice rifle, TOP quality, I doubt there's a better AR made - maybe one equal but none better. Certainly none better for the price. My only criticism is the trigger and my trigger may get better with use but LaRue should have put the SSA-E trigger in this rifle. I'll give the SSA trigger in my rifle a B as it is right now. Overall I'll give the rifle an A. The only reason it doesn't get an A+ is the trigger. Everything else is top notch, first rate. I couldn't ask for a higher quality, tighter fitting, accurate AR. The RAT stock gets an A too - very nicely done LaRue. The LaRue grip is the best fitting and feeling grip I've ever had my hand around. Mine is size small. Make sure to get the size that best fits your hand. I waited 18 months for my rifle but I did get caught in the "In House" barrel manufacturing start up. I hope LaRue gets their back orders caught up and future buyers don't have to wait nearly as long as I did. But my wait was worth it, I'd do it again, wouldn't like it but I'd do it. COOKIE

As everyone already knows..... Long wait (just over 18 months for me) but I have other rifles and they don't charge you until it's built so no big deal. This weapon just screams quality, from the zero play between the upper/lower, that solid "thunk" when you ride the bolt home and the sub 1" groups I was able to produce with XM855 ammo. I mounted a Vortex Razor HD 1-6x with the MRAD reticle on a LT-104 and she is GTG!!! At the current price point of this rifle it's about as good as it gets...... not sure you could (even being extremely diligent about finding good deals on the parts) piece together another rifle for this price/quality that is going to shoot this consistent. Thanks to Mark and his crew for an outstanding rifle!!

This rifle has the best fit and finish I have ever seen. When they describe the tolerances of this rifle being super tight they are not joking. Nothing rattles like a lot of common ar platforms that come within $300 of this rifle. I honestly did not know if I would like the new furniture that they put on these rifles. Once again Larue has far exceeded my expectations. The pistol grip gives a feeling of confidence when your behind this rifle. The new stock is outstanding. The adjustment is smooth and easy to remove. The trigger group from geissele broke smooth as glass. Take up and reset are very minimal, and make for enjoyable follow up shots. All in all definitely worth the wait. I wanted the best on the market for this type of rifle and Larue delivered. As always the customer service was fantastic. Thanks again Larue for an amazing product.
